Online STI Training for Healthcare Workers in Pacific Island Countries

The World Health Organization (WHO) in Fiji engaged Seward International to develop the design for an interactive online version of the WHO print-based course, "Comprehensive Management of Sexually Transmitted Infections in Pacific Island Countries”.

Seward’s instructional designer worked from a series of PDFs to design this online course for healthcare workers in the Pacific Island Countries (PICs). The 8-module course was designed to help the participants learn actively. In addition to reading and listening to text, the learners were also encouraged to reflect on their experience, make notes, answer questions, and practice skills. The course provided an audio track for ESL learners. An interactive glossary provided immediate help for unfamiliar words. Downloadable PDFs enabled learners to take resources away from the course.

The SCORM-compliant course was delivered for implementation in the Moodle course management system. A CD with a stand-alone version of the course also was delivered to be distributed to learners without internet access.
