Fiji Online Algebra and Chemistry Courses

Basic Algebra and Chemistry Skill Building

The World Health Organization (WHO) in Fiji engaged Seward International to create basic algebra and chemistry courses for online delivery. The courses are designed for high school graduates and/or health care workers with no college level courses and who lack the basic algebra and chemistry skills required for entrance into country or regional nursing or medical schools. These two courses are based on the University of the South Pacific courses.

Seward’s instructional designer worked with teachers from the University of the South Pacific to develop and adapt existing curriculum for online (Moodle) delivery. Courses were designed for a maximum of 12 students per course. All enrolled students were assigned to team for the purposes of participating in group activities as assigned. A wiki was provided for each team to develop a Team Learning Charter. All wikis were monitored by the instructor. A number of forums were provided to support students with various aspects of the course:  News and Announcements, Tutoring, Team Discussions, Class Discussions, Moodle Support, and more. Quizzes were provided to assist students studying for the final exam.
