Creative Associates International, Inc.Based in Washington, D.C., and working in 15 countries, Creative Associates is a 27-year-old firm founded and managed by women. Creative Associates' Education Mobilization and Communication division contributes to the development of more empowered individuals and organizations by promoting learning in school, at home, on the job, and in the community. Creative Associates' projects support positive change in education. In developing countries, their innovative social mobilization campaigns have helped change community perceptions about the value of educating girls. Creative Associates has designed and carried out teacher training that promotes child-centered learning and demonstrates modern classroom-management methods that involve parents in the learning process. In conflict areas, Creative Associates' partners receive lesson planning and other information via radio, broadening projects’ impact. Creative Associates conducts accelerated-learning programs that allow two years of schooling to be recovered in one year, drawing on national curricula, thereby providing a mechanism for mainstreaming out-of-school youths. They provide a variety of technical assistance to education ministries, such as the promotion of girls’ education and equity in the classroom, education-sector assessments and programs to fight child labor, and human trafficking. Creative Associates’ Communities in Transition division’s projects support change toward peace, self-sufficiency, and stability. Building on civic initiative and citizen participation, Creative Associates works with local resources and institutions to develop and revitalize communities, and to strengthen civil society. In the aftermath of conflict, Creative Associates' specialized programming enables communities to transition from social unrest to peace and productive life. Creative Associates has provided nonpartisan post-conflict-transition support to communities in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, South Africa, Liberia, Angola, and Mozambique.
